    About This Product

BY LINDA BOWERS, ROSEMARY HUISINGH, CAROLYN LOGIUDICE, AND JANE ORMAN

This curriculum-based language test assesses expressive vocabulary and semantic skills critical to reading comprehension and academic achievement. Available in both elementary and adolescent versions, the WORD Test 2 evaluates the student's ability to recall and use vocabulary, understand word relationships, and recognize variations in word meaning. Both versions are composed of six subtests:

    Associations
Students choose the semantically unrelated word from a list of three or four words and explain their choice.

    Synonyms
Students give a one-word synonym for each stimulus item.

    Semantic Absurdities
Students identify and correct an absurd statement.

    Antonyms
Students express a one-word opposite for each stimulus item.

    Definitions
    Students define words.

    Flexible Word Use
Students give two or more meanings for each stimulus item.

Administered in 25 to 30 minutes, the WORD Test 2 yields standard scores, age equivalents, and percentile ranks for each subtest and for total performance. Normative data, based on samples of 1,940 elementary students and 1,692 adolescent students, are analyzed by age, gender, race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and educational placement. Both child and teen samples reflect the demographics of the U.S. school population.

The WORD Test 2 shows you exactly how vocabulary and semantic skills affect student achievement. It gives you a clear profile of the student's strengths and weaknesses, providing a blueprint for intervention and placement. The Manual lists remedial activities for each subtest skill, which can help you coordinate therapy with classroom performance objectives.
